Recognitions
In 2007 the Regents of the University of Michigan appointed Tamas Gombosi as the Rollin M. Gerstacker Professor of Engineering.
Tamas Gombosi was elected Lifetime Full Member of the International Academy of Astronautics in 1997. In 1993 he was elected Corresponding Member of IAA.
Tamas Gombosi was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union in 1996.
Awards:
- The University of Michigan's Rosetta Orbiter Sensor for Ion and Neutral Analysis (ROSINA) team lead by Tamas Gombosi received the NASA Public Service Group Achievement Award in 2007.
- Tamas Gombosi received the Stephen S. Attwood Award in 2002. This is the highest award of the College of Engineering of the University of Michigan.
- Tamas Gombosi and his team received the Team Excellence Award of the College of Engineering in 1999. This award was given for their collective work in developing a state-of-the-art, high-performance computational code for the simulation of space plasmas.
- He received the NASA Group Achievement Award in 1998 for his work on the Cassini Orbiter.
- He received the Research Excellence Award, of the College of Engineering, University of Michigan, in 1992.
- He received the Lajos Jánossy Award, from Central Research Institute for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in 1987.
- He received the László Detre Award from the Lóránd Eötvös Physical Society in 1982.
- He received the KFKI Award from the Central Research Institute for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1976 and in 1978.
- He received the Albert Fonó Award from the Hungarian Astronautical Society in 1976.
